Day 1. Monday We travel to Llanberis.
Day 2. Tuesday Following breakfast, we enjoy a journey onboard the Welsh Highland Railway. The Welsh Highland Railway is the UK’s longest heritage railway and runs for 25 miles from Caernarfon, past the foot of Snowdon and the picture postcard village of Beddgelert, then through the stunning Aberglaslyn Pass and on to Porthmadog. We enjoy a short break in Porthmadog, before boarding the Ffestiniog Railway. The Ffestiniog Railway is the world’s oldest narrow-gauge railway with almost 200 years of history, taking you on a 13½-mile journey from the harbour in Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. The historic train will climb over 700 feet from sea level into the mountains through tranquil pastures and magnificent forests, past lakes and waterfalls, round tight bends (even a complete spiral) clinging to the side of the mountain or tunnelling through it. The Ffestiniog Railway and its infrastructure are now an integral part of the UNESCO “Slate landscape of North Wales” World Heritage Site.
Day 3. Wednesday Located a short walk from the hotel, today we include a journey on the Snowdon Mountain Railway which will take you to the summit. As the train travels up the mountain, you’ll experience awe-inspiring views and uncover the mountain’s hidden secrets, from viaducts, waterfalls and gorges to the remnants of abandoned farms, chapels and medieval settlements. A return journey to the summit is approximately 2.5 hours, which includes a 30-minute stopover at Hafod Eryri, the UK’s highest visitor centre. The journey is operated by a diesel train and is subject to weather conditions.
Day 4. Thursday Today we enjoy a visit to Llandudno, one of the largest and most popular of the Welsh seaside resorts. This delightful seaside town is famed for its golden beach flanked by two headlands, the Great and Little Ormes, and its wonderful air of traditional Victorian charm. It is also home to the longest pier in Wales at 2295 ft. Opened in 1902, the Great Orme Tramway is Britain’s only funicular, or cable-hauled, tramway that travels on public roads. The unique journey begins at Victoria Station, a short distance from Llandudno’s seaside and pier and climbs a mile (1500m) through the Great Orme Country Park and Nature Reserve to the Great Orme’s spectacular summit (not included).
Day 5. Friday We depart after breakfast and return home.
Excursion days are subject to change and will be confirmed with your final travel documents.
