Itinerary

Day 1. Sunday We travel to the Isle of Man from Heysham to Douglas on the Isle of Man Steam Packet.

Day 2. Monday Today we enjoy a fascinating guided tour of the Isle of Man, uncovering the island’s rich heritage and captivating stories. Our knowledgeable guide will offer insight into the island’s intriguing and often turbulent past, shaped by waves of ancient Celts, Norse invaders, and early Christian settlers. Their legacy can still be seen today in the form of mysterious Celtic crosses, weathered medieval fortresses, and Viking burial grounds scattered across the landscape. Despite its modest size – just 33 miles long and 13 miles wide – the Isle of Man has proudly retained its independence for centuries. It boasts its own parliament (Tynwald), currency, stamps, and even a revived native language, Manx Gaelic. As you journey around the island, you'll experience a unique blend of history and culture.

Day 3. Tuesday Following breakfast, we enjoy a scenic journey on the Isle of Man Steam Railway from Douglas to Port Erin. The Isle of Man Steam Railway is the longest narrow gauge steam line in Britain that still uses its original locomotives and carriages. The three-foot narrow-gauge railway was opened in 1873 and runs through the Island’s charming countryside between the Island’s capital and a range of destinations in the south. On arrival in Port Erin, there will be free time to explore the seaside village, including the Railway Museum which is free with your rail ticket. The museum charts the history of the steam powered railway from its inception in 1873 to the present day including the now defunct lines which used to serve Peel, Ramsey and Foxdale. Excursion may operate in reverse.

Day 4. Wednesday Enjoy a day at leisure to explore more of Douglas and the Isle of Man at your own pace.

Day 5. Thursday We depart and return home.

Passengers do not need a passport to travel to the Isle of Man but are advised to take a form of identity. Useful means of identification when travelling on this route are passport, driving licence or a bus pass.
