We invite you to join us for a 4-day break staying in our very own historic 16th Century Inn set in the heart of the stunning North York Moors National Park and visit Whitby, famous for its connections to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Its Gothic culture, ornate cobbled paths, locally owned shops, and wholesome cafes give Whitby that intriguing yet welcoming atmosphere that makes it a great place to visit. Being by the sea you’ll also get to enjoy classic seaside fun with crab fishing, sandcastle building and walks along the pier!

Itinerary

Day 1. We depart and travel to Harrogate. Harrogate is the definitive boutique spa town in the heart of Yorkshire. Its thriving streets buzz with busy shops and eateries. With its handsome historic buildings and verdant gardens, Harrogate is one of Yorkshire's most elegant destinations. We arrive in the village of Rosedale Abbey later this afternoon and enjoy a welcome drink on arrival, before settling into your room with porterage included. Dinner included this evening.

Day 2. Following breakfast we travel to the picturesque market town of Helmsley. Helmsley is the only market town in the North York Moors National Park and is the perfect base to explore and is renowned for its wide range of interesting and unique shops. Later this afternoon we will visit Thornton-le-Dale, a quaint English village and undoubtedly one of the most picturesque in Yorkshire. Our final visit of the day will be to the famous village of Goathland, or “Aidensfield” in TV’s Heartbeat. Dinner included this evening.

Day 3. Enjoy a leisurely morning with free time to explore the pretty village of Rosedale Abbey. Despite its name, there never was an abbey here – just a small Cistercian nunnery, of which only a stone turret or belfry remains in the village churchyard. Although quiet now, a flourishing ironstone industry transformed Victorian Rosedale. Later this morning we will depart Rosedale Abbey and make a short break in Pickering for those who may wish to catch the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to Whitby (additional charge). Our scenic journey will continue to Whitby. From the atmospheric Abbey towering over winding cobbled streets to the windswept beach and working harbour, Whitby is not your traditional coastal town. Follow in the footsteps of Bram Stoker’s Dracula and English explorer Captain James Cook or discovering the history of the famous Whitby Jet. There will be free time to explore Whitby at your leisure, before enjoining a fish and chip dinner at a restaurant in Whitby. We return to the hotel later this evening.

Day 4. We check out and depart this morning after breakfast and enjoy a visit to York. Renowned for its exquisite architecture, Gothic cathedral and tangle of quaint cobbled streets, historic York is the setting for a perfect visit. But as old meets new, the city also has many surprises in store as vibrant cafés, colourful street entertainers and boutique and high street shopping lie waiting to be discovered. We depart York later this afternoon for our return home.

Departure on the 7th July 2025 will include entrance to The Great Yorkshire Show in place of a visit to Harrogate.

Excursion days are subject to change and will be confirmed with your final travel documents.
