Set withing 1000 acres of Northumberland moorland and forest, Slaley Hall Hotel is a magnificent, elegant Edwardian mansion and the perfect location for a relaxing winter warmer breakaway. With excursions to the market town of Hexham, entrance to Chesters Roman Fort, and Belsay Hall, as well as a visit to medieval Durham.

Itinerary

Day 1. Monday We travel to Alnwick.

Day 2. Tuesday Enjoy a visit to Hexham and Chesters Roman Fort. Built almost 2000 years ago to house a Roman army garrison guarding the nearby bridge across the River Tyne, Chesters Roman Fort is the most complete Roman cavalry fort in Britain.

Day 3. Wednesday Today we enjoy a visit to Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens. Boasting sweeping views over gentle rolling countryside, Belsay is set within the evocative landscape of Northumberland’s ‘border country’.

Day 4. Thursday Enjoy a day visiting Durham. With its medieval past, Durham has eagerly embraced the modern with its captivating mix of history and heritage with contemporary culture. A captivating city with winding cobbled streets and a prominent peninsula crowned with the dramatic Durham Cathedral and Castle World Heritage Site. Explore the timeless quality of this quintessential old English University City and take some time out with a relaxing riverside walk or river cruise, or soak up the atmosphere with superb cafés, artisan workshops, boutiques, galleries, and museums.

Day 5. Friday We depart and return home.

Boasting an idyllic position on the edge of the North Pennines, Slaley Hall is a beautiful hotel steeped in history and surrounded by 1000 acres of woodland. A former hunting lodge turned hotel, spa and golf resort, the sprawling estate dates back to Edwardian times. All bedrooms are en-suite with television, hair dryer and tea/coffee making facilities.
