Overview

Explore Ireland’s magnificent northern coastline from the cliffs and coves of Co. Antrim to the spectacular seascapes of Co. Donegal. Our break will include a visit to the Glenveagh National Park and a railway journey described by Michael Palin, as “one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world”. We will also include a guided tour of Derry and visit Giants Causeway and Titanic Belfast.

Itinerary

Day 1. Saturday: We depart for the port of Holyhead and our crossing to Dublin. On arrival we continue to the outskirts of Dublin for one night, dinner, bed, and breakfast.

Day 2. Sunday: Following breakfast, we depart our hotel and make our way to Buncrana, Co. Donegal passing through the counties of Meath, Louth, and Monaghan. Our journey will continue into Co. Donegal to the town of Buncrana for three night’s dinner, bed, and breakfast at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel.

Day 3. Monday: Todays guided tour will begin with a scenic drive around the Inishowen Peninsula to Malin Head, the northernmost point in Ireland. The start (or end, depending on your point of view) of the Wild Atlantic Way, Malin Head has long been renowned for its epic coastal scenery, thriving birdlife and historical curiosities it was also a location for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Our scenic journey will continue, as we travel to Derry for an included walking tour including the famous Walls and Peace Bridge. Located in the stunning Northwest of Ireland and perfectly positioned were the Wild Atlantic Way meets the Causeway Coastal Route, Derry is renowned as one of the finest Walled cities in Europe, full of fascinating history and culture. Enjoy magnificent historic buildings and cathedrals and visit one of the many museums to uncover this unique destination and its fascinating story.

Day 4. Tuesday: Following breakfast, we enjoy a visit to the Glenveagh National Park Visitor Centre. Situated in Co. Donegal, Glenveagh National Park covers almost 10,000 hectares of mountains, lakes, glens, and woods. The Park was opened in 1986 and boasts beautiful lakes, amidst breathtaking mountain scenery.

Day 5. Wednesday: Today we return to Derry, where we board the train for an unforgettable journey to Coleraine. Described by Michael Palin as being ‘one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world’, the journey will take you alongside stunning beaches, through Ireland’s longest railway tunnels and past historic landmarks. On arrival in Coleraine, you will be met by our coach and continue your journey to The Giants Causeway, with included entrance to the visitor centre. Flanked by the wild North Atlantic Ocean and a landscape of dramatic cliffs, for centuries the Giant’s Causeway has inspired artists, stirred scientific debate, and captured the imagination of all who see it. We are allocated a 2-hour visit to the Giants Causeway. Our journey will continue to theoutskirts of Belfast and two nights, dinner, bed, and breakfast at the Stormont Hotel.

Day 6. Thursday: Today we enjoy a guided tour of Belfast with included entrance to the Titanic Story. Belfast is a vibrant, modern city with a fascinating past. Get your bearings with a guided tour through its four ‘Quarters’ taking in historic landmarks including City Hall and Queens University. Later this afternoon we include entrance to Titanic Belfast. Titanic Belfast is an unmissable visit in any tour of Northern Ireland. It is in the heart of Belfast, on the slipways where RMS Titanic was built.

Day 7. Friday: We depart the hotel after breakfast, as we travel to Belfast port. On arrival in Cairnryan, we continue our journey home.

Identification: British or Irish citizens travelling on the Irish Sea routes do not need a passport to travel to Britain or Ireland but must have some Photographic Identification. Useful means of identification when travelling on this route are passport, driving licence and a bus pass. We require the full name and date of birth for all passengers travelling.


Inishowen Gateway Hotel

The Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana, County Donegal nestles on the edge of the Inishowen Peninsula with panoramic views of stunning North Donegal. All bedrooms are en-suite with television and tea/coffee making facilities. Additional facilities include a restaurant and bar. Leisure facilities include a swimming pool, sauna, and steam room. Lift to all floors. Limited ground floor bedrooms.


Stormont Hotel

The beautiful Stormont Hotel Belfast is located just minutes away from Belfast City Centre, adjacent to Stormont Estate overlooking the immaculately maintained wooded landscape. All bedrooms are en-suite with television and tea/coffee making facilities. Additional facilities include a lounge bar and restaurant. Lift to all floors. Limited ground floor bedrooms.
