Day 1. Saturday We depart and travel to Llangollen with an included canal cruise. The canal boat will carry you through the beautiful Vale of Llangollen and across the famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct built by Thomas Telford. Built between 1795 and 1805, the impressive structure stands out from its surroundings and yet somehow complements the landscape perfectly, making it a site that simply has to be seen up close. This is the country's highest navigable aqueduct, towering 126ft (38m) above the River Dee. We depart later this afternoon for the journey to Mold and the Beaufort Park Hotel. This evening enjoy a three-course evening meal.
Day 2. Sunday Following breakfast, we travel home via the Anderton Boat Lift. The lift was built by Edwin Clark in 1875 to carry cargo boats the 50 feet from the River Weaver to the Trent and Mersey Canal. This 75-minute voyage combines a cruise on the Weaver Navigation with a trip on the lift. Whilst on-board you can listen to the commentary detailing the history and mechanics of this Victorian masterpiece whilst experiencing the engineering at work. It is one of only two working boat lifts in the UK and this three-storey-high cast iron structure is one of the ‘Seven Wonders of the Waterways’. We depart later this afternoon to make our journey home.
Excursion days are subject to change and will be confirmed with your final travel documents.
