Day 4. Sunday: Enjoy a day at leisure. There are many towns and villages in the German-speaking world called Kirchberg, but the thing that makes Kirchberg in Tirol unmistakable is its location in the rolling green hills of the Brixental Valley. Kirchberg has a steadily growing population of over 5,000 inhabitants, making it one of the larger settlements in Tirol, a region generally characterised by small villages and hamlets. Indeed, Kirchberg itself is surrounded by several hamlets bedded into a rolling landscape which forms quite a contrast to the craggy peaks and sheer rock faces found in many other parts of the Tirol.
Day 5. Monday: Today we enjoy a visit to Salzburg known as the ‘Sound of Music’ city and one of the best-preserved historic cities in Europe. It is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and is dominated by churches, castles, and palaces. Its picturesque old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set amongst wonderful alpine scenery, Salzburg is dominated by the magnificent Hohensalburg Fortress which can be reached by the funicular railway or on foot. The centre has changed little over the years with its many towers, domes, impressive square and narrow lanes. Visit Mozart’s Square situated in the heart of the city, the Dom (cathedral) and beautiful Mirabell Gardens.
Day 6. Tuesday: Enjoy a day visiting Innsbruck. Nestled amidst majestic peaks, this breathtaking city offers a unique combination of nature, history, and culture. You can stroll its streets full of Baroque and Gothic architecture in the Old Town or discover one of the hip districts such as Mariahilf or St. Nikolaus. Innsbruck’s top highlights include The Golden Roof, The Imperial Palace, Ambras Castle and Maria Theresien Strasse. And after all the sightseeing you can take a cable car from the city centre, and in just 20 minutes, reach the Seegrube at 2,000 m (6,562 ft). Here you can take in spectacular views of the Inn valley and the surrounding mountains.
Day 7. Wednesday: Enjoy a day travelling on-board the Achensee Cog Railway. For over 120 years, since 1889 to be exact, the train has hauled itself, huffing and puffing, up the mountain. From Jenbach in the Inntal valley to Achensee, it tackles some seven kilometers and 440 metres altitude. Achensee Steam Cog Railway is the oldest of its kind in Europe and is still in constant use. We will travel part of the journey from Jenbach to Seespitz. On arrival in Seespitz, we enjoy a relaxing cruise to Pertisau. You will be able to feel the fresh breeze and soak in the breathtaking view of the Karwendel and Rofan mountains while enjoying your scenic cruise.
Day 8. Thursday: Today we enjoy a scenic drive on the spectacular Grossglockner High Alpine Road. The famous alpine road leads you right into the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park. At 12,460 feet, the pyramid-shaped Grossglockner is not only the highest mountain in Austria, but it also counts among the highest peaks in the Alps. It is the epitome of an impressive natural experience!
Day 9. Friday: Enjoy a day at leisure and your final day in Kirchberg in Tirol.
Day 10. Saturday: We depart Kirchberg and begin our return journey home travelling through Austria and into Germany and our overnight hotel for one night dinner, bed & breakfast (minimum 3-star standard).
